Yes, we're still meeting!

I'm getting a lot of emails about whether we are still meeting, so I thought I'd write another blog entry. Yes, we're still meeting, and new people are still very welcome.

We've been meeting for over seven years now. I think that probably makes us the oldest continuous Sydney knitting group outside the Guild.

And just a note: Worldwide Knit in Public Day doesn't clash with SSK this year: it's on 13 June at Bayside Lounge, Darling Harbour, 1.30 - 5.00pm

Dates updated

I've updated the dates on the right to reflect the 2009 meetings. I notice that there's one on ANZAC Day, but the chances are we'll meet then as usual.

If you have any questions about meeting, please email me, or check out the SSK Ravelry group. And if you're not in Ravelry, you're really missing out one something! Apply to join up here. It's free and it's fun.

And there's to be a Festive Season Celebration for Sydney knittters on Sunday 14 December, 2pm at Sidewalk Cafe at the Sydney Opera House. Informal, just turn up if you want to, kind of thing. And if you’re really shy, rest assured that if you turn up and don’t like the look of what’s going on you can go away without anyone even knowing you were there!

WWKIP08

This year World Wide Knit in Public Day is June 14. Kris has done some research, and after the wet and blustery day we had last year she has found a good indoor spot: the Bayside Lounge at Darling Harbour. Kris has put all the details at the official site.

Meeting in the Domain

On February 2 there is going to be at Opera in the Domain. Kris from Tapestry Craft made the suggestion that we all bring our knitting and a picnic. Although the Opera doesn't start until 8pm, a few hardy souls have volunteered to be there from 2pm to claim a space for us all. If you want more details email me and I'll send you my mobile number so we can link up. There is talk of a helium balloon so people can find the kntting group.

Of course, if you want to go to Barmuda on 2 February as usual that's fine. However, as there is an alternative there may not be many people at Barmuda.

Button Shop Window redux

Lucy at The Button Shop has again asked for knitted squares, duplicate copies of  of knitting patterns, etc, to put in the window in the winter. I know this is early, but it's good she's giving us so much warning. She's sent me some more pics of the 2007 winter window (which I blogged here). Click to embiggen.

It did look great, so if you can spare some time to make a few things in the next few months it would be much appreciated. Either drop them in to the shop or give them to me and I'll drop them in sometime when I've managed for force myself to pay her a visit.  This is a good way to use up ack-rylic or cheap-and-nasty yarn, as the squares are more-or-less destroyed by the sun once they've been in the window.

Christmas catch-up

I've posted three albums - October, November and December - in the sidebar. There are some gaps - I knew that I should have made notes even when there were only 5 people present - so please let me know if you can add any information. Especially, whose beautiful lace shawl is Sandra modelling at a October meeting?

I've also moved the photo albums from 2006 into a list at the bottom, as they were making the sidebar very long. Unfortunately Typepad doesn't have an automatic way to do this, so I'll have to do it manually every so often. Links to the older sites are now below that again.

The 22 December meeting was very special. A lot of people came for the first time, having heard about us at Ravelry. Welcome, and we hope you  enjoyed yourselves and will come again. We had two visitors from Melbourne: Kylie (KIP) and Shayna (Knits McGee). There were also a few people who had returned after long absences, and I really enjoyed catching up with you. I decided not to try and capture everything that everyone was working on  (after all, most of you are on Ravelry and have that way to keep track). I just took pics of a few things that caught my eye. Kate has lots more photos here and I think Andrew will post some when he has a moment spare from his busy holiday whirl.

Happy Christmas, one and all, and I'll see you in the New Year. The 5 January meeting will be at the coffee shop on the corner where Enmore Rd and King St separate. Barmuda will be open again after that so we'll return to our version of normal.

Group at Ravelry

After a discussion at yesterday's meeting I've started an SSK group at Ravelry. I invited the SSK people whom I could see there, so apologies if you're in Ravelry and I haven't invited you. Feel free to invite yourself.

Apologies

I'm behind with uploading the pictures, but I have updated next year's dates in the sidebar. The 5 Jan meeting might be held elsewhere - more news closer to the date.

Last September photos uploaded

The photos for 29 September are now in the sidebar. We had two new people this time, Lynne and Lee-Fay, and we hope they return.

I will miss the next meeting, so if someone wants to take some pics and upload them to flckr, let me know and I'll link to them from here.

15 September

A small group again - makes it easy to put up the album! I forgot to put in the detail that both Kerry's and Judy's socks are made with wool yarns from The Knittery, an Australian company with wonderful yarns. Such colours!
